The fort goes back to a moated castle that was built in 1307. Predecessor buildings are already mentioned in the years 1188 to 1250. Today the rebuilt east wing of the main castle from the 16th century still stands.

Beautiful old walls from the 14th century. Houses the Bürgerschützengilde Holten 1308 e.V. and was rebuilt in the late 1960s by this association after the Second World War.
