The Weil spring is located at approximately 740 meters in the immediate vicinity of the former Feldberg fort! This is where the Roman Limes guards once drew their fresh water, and this is probably why they chose this location for a fort (rather than directly at the strategically much more advantageous "Red Cross" pass).
