The entire stretch from Nova Siri to Metaponto is problematic due to the scarcity or absence of bridges over a series of rivers. The bridges are only those of the SS, which are prohibited or in any case too dangerous for bikes. The best alternative would be the train, but there are more regional trains: the service is carried out by replacement buses (3 per day in each direction, I think). You need to find out the timetables, coinciding with the IC lines to and from Rome or Milan, which stop in Metaponto and Policoro. This is the link for August 2022
