The Dannenberger Ostbahnhof, built in the late Classicist tradition in 1873, was the first and largest train station in Wendland. The structure, the silhouette of which is intended to be reminiscent of a locomotive, was extensively renovated in 2012 in accordance with the requirements of listed buildings.
Once a railway junction, Dannenberg is now the terminus for the "Wendlandbahn", which runs between Lüneburg and Dannenberg every three hours. There are still two platforms, but only one is served. The second track leads to the loading station for Castor transports about one kilometer away.
