The watermill in the Furlbachtal was created in 1849 by August Bödeker as a flour mill and was popularly called Tütgemühle. The mill was in operation until about 1925. Then a new mill with motor drive was created by the former miller on Holzkämper's colonate. The Tütgemühle was called since then "Old Mill". It was rebuilt in 1951 by the parenting of the Sudbrackschule in Bielefeld to a country school home. In May 1945, the Old Mill served as a hiding place for women and children before the invading Russians.
In 1978, the old mill was demolished.
On the other side are the former mill ponds that collected the water for the operation of the mill wheel. Behind these ponds lies the actual spring valley of the Furlbach in a large dune arch. The spring water appears there in many places in the valley floor and at the Talkanten. Hidden under a dense vegetation cover, countless rivulets flow together and form the Furlbach. South of Kaunitz the Furlbach flows into the Ems.
At the end of the 1940s, the Sudbrackschule in Bielefeld, under the direction of the rector, Mr Strübe, converted the mill into a school camp. The mill was built on its own and with the help of the Chemical-Pharmaceutical Factory - Dr. Ing. August Wolf expanded. This had used the building during the war years as a laboratory.
