In the twelfth century, the monastery was founded as a Cistercian convent by the Counts of Arnstein as the owners of the Ruppin estate. With the Reformation in 1542 it was used as a Protestant women's monastery. In the Thirty Years War (1638) the monastery complex was destroyed by imperial troops. Some of the old monastery buildings are still in ruins.

The monastery was probably founded around 1230 by the Counts of Arnstein, who also called themselves Counts of Lindow. In 1542 the Reformation was introduced and the monastery was converted into a Protestant convent for women. It was one of the richest monasteries in the Mark until 1638, when it was destroyed by imperial troops along with its valuable library and documents.

In the "Garden of the Book" there is a blackboard for each plant on which a quotation from a religious book can be read in which this plant is already found. Garden fans will be amazed at what ancient times some plants were already mentioned.
