In the village of Pustovyta, Kyiv region, there is a mill that can rightly be called "Dutch".
First, it is designed according to the Dutch model - it has the shape of a cone with a rounded tower. Secondly, it was built by Ukrainian Kuzma Dryga, who worked as a miller in Holland for several years.
In order to build a "Dutch" mill in his native village, Kuzma also had to visit France - he worked there for two years and learned the trade. As a result, in 1902, one of the best windmills at that time appeared in Pustovity. Then the story developed according to the scenario typical for that era. In the 20s, the family was disbanded and exiled to Siberia, and the mill was collectivized. But the building itself survived revolution, war, and natural disasters.
The mill got a new life already in 2017: patrons took serious responsibility for its restoration. It was possible to preserve the building almost in its original form, only the blades and several mechanisms had to be replaced. Otherwise, everything remained as it was at the beginning of the 20th century. For example, the millstones that Kuzma Dryga brought from France itself can be seen even now.
