In the weeks before Germany invaded Poland, Colonel General Heinz Guderian lived in this villa in Groß Born, of which only the ruins remain. Guderian prepared his troops for the Polish campaign in Groß Born in the summer of 1939. He was the commander of the XIX. Army Corps of Army Group North. In September 1939, his troops marched through the so-called Polish Corridor into East Prussia.
The last Russian general in command, Dubynin, had the villa burned down in a controlled manner by 20 soldiers shortly before his troops withdrew in 1992 and prevented the Polish fire brigade from extinguishing the fire.
