The stretch on the coast is often recommended as a highlight, but the Wadden Sea shouldn't be forgotten either. The Wadden Sea in Lower Saxony was placed under protection as early as 1986.
On June 26, 2009, the Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein and Dutch Wadden Sea were also recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The Hamburg Wadden Sea was added in 2011, and the Danish one in 2014.

Here on the dry beach of Uppleward, mudflat hikes start regularly, among others organized by the Greetsiel National Park House: nationalparkhaus-wattenmeer.de/nationalpark-haus-greetsiel

After the mudflat hike, there is the opportunity to clean up and refresh yourself at a kiosk.

The National Park "Lower Saxony Wadden Sea"
Since 1986, the Wadden Sea is protected from the North Sea coast of Lower Saxony as a national park. With the amendment of the National Park Act of March 2010, the area has now been extended to approx. 345,000 hectares. This makes the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea the second largest German national park.

DOGS ON THE DYE:
We would like to take this opportunity to point out that dogs must be carried along all of the dykes in accordance with Nieders. Dyke Act is prohibited. In the past it has unfortunately happened repeatedly that sheep were chased by dogs running freely and died as a result. Furthermore, pathogens can be transmitted through the dog's faeces.

Some areas (Campener lighthouse to camping site Upleward, old dike in Greetsiel) have been approved for dogs (LANDED) in consultation with the sheep farms. The instructions of the shepherd and the dike attendant must be followed.
