In the middle of the historic old town of Melsungen you will find the historic town hall. Embedded in the gorgeous half-timbered ensemble of the city on the Fulda, the town hall with the market square is a wonderful place. In addition to great photo motifs, you will find many places to eat and shop here.

Today's town hall, with a Bartenwetzer figure, was built in 1562/68 after it was destroyed by a major fire and is now considered one of the most beautiful half-timbered town halls in Germany.
Free on all sides, with three projecting floors and its polygonal corner towers, it dominates the Melsunger market square. The building is crowned by its central tower, in which the figure of Melsung's landmark - the Bartenwetzer - appears daily at 12:00 and 18:00. In 1928 the old half-timbering and the Ratskeller, which had been buried until then, were uncovered again. Parts of the administration, e.g. the main office and personnel office, are still located in the town hall today.
