The church is situated on a hill in the southwest of the city. The northern and southern fence walls of the cemetery are partly late Gothic and consist of large friar's stones in a row of friars.
The church was built of red monk stone in the years 1200-1250 and consists of a late Romanesque chancel and nave. A little later western extension with late Gothic additions. The tower to the west, the arsenal to the south and the sacristy on the north side of the chancel date from the 18th century.
