The tower was built around 1864, at least that's the date inscribed on one of the ceiling beams. Locals call it the Bismarck Tower, although everything indicates it's not. On a 1938 map, it's marked with the letters AT (German: Aussichtsturm), meaning simply an observation tower.
The tower is located in a dense forest, and the trees have long since outgrown it. There are no views to be had. The stairs inside the tower are in very good condition, and it's easy to climb to the top. The problem only becomes apparent at the top floor. There used to be a ladder, but now someone has constructed a makeshift structure out of branches, but that, too, has fallen apart.
