The first monks on the island of Visovac were Augustinian monks, that was in 1150. They founded a monastery dedicated to the Apostle Paul. Around 1440 came Franciscan brothers who fled from Bosnia. In 1445 the monastery "Our Lady of Mercy" was enlarged. It is still supplied by the Franciscans today.
