The Lower Saxony Mill Road
Windmill Midlum
As early as 1750, the first windmill stood here on the edge of the Geest.
In 1828, the miller Heinrich Meinecke was allowed to build a lohgang,
1831 the widow Sielken a Graupengang
In 1857, the Meinecke miller family built a gallery hollander with two shot gears and a roller mill.
In 1910 the Sielken family took over the business. Wilhelm Sielken, the last active miller,
operated the mill with wind power until 1955.
Until 1992 it was used as an electric grist mill and as a store for grain and animal feed.
Wilhelm Sielken wanted to keep the mill, but could no longer raise the funds for repairs and maintenance. In 1998 he therefore sold it to the municipality of Midlum, which renovated the mill from the ground up with subsidies.
The mill is a listed building and is fully functional
The "Association for the Preservation of the Midlum Mill" organizes mill days in summer and cultural events in winter.
