The Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire is part of a duo of châteaux that must be seen together: Chaumont-sur-Loire and Chenonceau. Indeed, these two châteaux were owned by Anne of Poitiers and Catherine de Medici (Catherine de Medici having forced Anne of Poitiers to give her her château—Chenonceau—and take hers—Chaumont).
Chaumont is also interesting for its aesthetic quality, but also for its setting (gardens, stables, hamlet, etc.) and the famous people who have stayed there (Proust, Sarah Bernard, the Sha of Iran, Germaine de Staël on the run, etc.).
