The Eger flows through a narrow valley in front of Marktleuthen in the Fichtelgebirge near Neumühle. It is often referred to as the Eger breakthrough because the Eger created an incision here itself, otherwise the river bed would have taken a completely different course. The section of the river used to be called "Thus", which comes from "tosen", because the Eger flows here thundering over rocks. Since a large part of the water is diverted for a power plant in Neumühle and later for the mill ditch at the corner mill, you can only experience the roar when the Eger carries a lot of water.

Before Marktleuthen in the Fichtelgebirge near Neumühle, between Kühberg and Lindenberg, the Eger forms a breakthrough valley with mighty granite blocks in the river bed, the Eger breakthrough. On the northern slope of the Kühberg there are granite rock formations with the "mattress formation" typical of the Fichtelgebirge, which the locals call "Kleiner Hirschsprung". This section of the Eger was formerly also called "Thus", which is derived from "tosen", as the Eger rushes over the rocks here. Unfortunately, you can only experience the roar when the Eger carries a lot of water during high tide, as a large part of the water is diverted for a power station in Neumühle and later for the mill ditch of the Eckenmühle.
