The Cross Chapel, built of sandstone and covered with a red tiled roof, is the town's landmark. It stands on the lower half of a valuable vineyard on the Wissberg slope, which the "Oberschultheiss Johann Jakob Hees zu Gau-Böckelheim" made available in 1755 for the construction of such a chapel. At that time it was consecrated in honor of the Holy Cross and from then on many believers made a pilgrimage to this place twice a year. This old chapel was destroyed 40 years later by the warlike events that took place during the French Revolution. In 1856/1857 the destroyed church began to be rebuilt. But already at the end of the 19th century the building was threatened with collapse and had to be demolished in 1893. The chapel, built between 1907 and 1910, was completely restored in the 1970s. Fourteen Stations of the Cross erected in 1862 line the way to the Cross Chapel, which is a frequently visited place of pilgrimage. Originally there were seven footfall stations that were worshiped by passers-by.
