The Basilica of Our Lady of Sameiro (Portuguese Basílica de Nossa Senhora do Sameiro) is a Roman Catholic church with the status of a minor basilica and a Marian shrine in the area of Braga. It is the first Portuguese church to be dedicated to the dogma of the Immaculate Conception, proclaimed in 1854. Pope John Paul II visited the Marian shrine on May 15, 1982 and awarded it the Golden Rose in 2004. His statue below the church reminds us of this.
Locals choose this spot to exercise, picnic, relax, and watch the sunset. Especially because the Sameiro Sanctuary offers the best panoramic view of the city of Braga!
