The Cistercian monastery of Marienfeld, founded in 1185, was one of the most important monasteries in Westphalia. The late Romanesque abbey church is an outstanding example of Cistercian architecture. The Cistercian Trail, a 1200-meter-long circular walk, leads around the monastery grounds. The monastery café and the monastery parlor provide a great range of culinary options on site.

Even though the farm buildings and the abbey now house an elegant hotel, a Benedictine monk lives in the monastery again after a break of over 200 years. The stately monastery church with its magnificent interior is particularly impressive.

The Monastery Marienfeld is a former Cistercian abbey and is located in Harsewinkel district Marienfeld in the East Westphalian district of Gütersloh. It was founded in 1185 by monks from the monastery Hardehausen. The consecration of the abbey church took place in 1222.
