Lauenstein, which belongs to Ludwigsstadt, is the northernmost town - with the castle - the northernmost castle in the Free State of Bavaria and as a special feature: the Rennsteig trail is located south of the town.
The castle is fantastic and is beautifully situated between Th. Schiefergebirge and Franconian Forest in the former inner-German border area.
