At the western end of the Clarenbach Canal, not far from the Melaten Cemetery, a church was built in the 1930s, which was so severely damaged during the Second World War that it had to be laid down after a period of restoration. Instead of the old church, the Cologne architect Professor Gottfried Böhm built from 1967 to 1970 made of exposed concrete and red clinker a church, which finds a crowning glory in the bell tower. The twisted design allows inside the use of niches and small spaces for the different tasks of the Catholic liturgy.
In the room, which was originally to serve as a baptistery, a memorial chapel was set up in honor of Edith Stein's beatification.
