Schmölz Castle was first mentioned in 1194 as Smoulnce, then from 1264 as Smolenz and from 1329 as Schmalnz. The barons of Redwitz were the castle and manors. The old castle of Schmölz was destroyed in the Peasants' War in 1525. The new castle was built in 1536 and is now owned by the artist Paul Eddie Pfisterer and his wife Girle Pfisterer.

Nice castle to look at. However, the property is privately owned and should not be entered. But taking a nice photo is definitely possible! :-)
