The Riedensee nature reserve is around 90 hectares in size and is located north of Kägsdorf directly on the Baltic Sea. It was designated in 1993 and serves to preserve a species-rich flora and fauna in the area of one of the last remaining beach lakes.
The Riedensee - different every day The Riedensee west of Kuehlungsborn is the rest of a water-filled hollow that was formed after the last ice age. The depression not far from the sea was flooded when the sea level rose in a phase 6,500 to 4,000 years ago. A moor influenced by salt water formed.
