The support center 'Fledermaus' in the dunes of Klein-Valkenisse formed the first link of the Landfront Vlissingen and is named after an operetta by Johan Strausjr. The position was able to cover the dragon's teeth barrier at the foot of the dune with fire. The barrier was made up of several rows of concrete pyramids and was intended to stop Allied tanks. The Landfront Vlissingen complex was created in the years 1942-1944 and is part of the Atlantikwall, the German military defense system from World War II. The Landfront Vlissingen was intended to protect the coastal defenses on Walcheren from attackers from the landward side. Wikipedia

Landlord Vlissingen Vlissingen was an important position during the Second World War It was extended exponentially as part of the German defense line Atlantic Wall. To protect the fortress from being attacked on the back, there was a defensive belt on the country side of the city. This so-called land front consisted of a kilometer-long anti-tank ditch with dozens of casemates behind them for machine-guns and antitank guns. The line began in the west in the dunes of Groot-Valkenisse and Koudekerke to the channel by Walcheren. On the eastern side of the canal, the land front continued towards Ritthem where the line ended in the Schorerpolder at Fort Rammekens. Most of it's land front was retained
