The first church stood on Királydomb on the site of today's St. John's Chapel. It was centrally located on the main street of the castle.
In 1271, the Czech king Ottokár killed the women and children who fled to the church when the castle was occupied.
The current church was built in 1757 in the late Baroque style with a low gabled tower. The listed building was enriched with neo-baroque elements during the reconstruction at the end of the last century.
