HISTORICAL OVERVIEW

Lędziny is an ancient settlement, widely considered one of the oldest in the former Pszczyna region, and even in Upper Silesia. The oldest historically documented mention of Lędziny as an old settlement, still under Polish law, dates back to the 12th century, when the Pszczyna region, along with Lędziny, formed an integral part of the Kraków region. From the mid-16th century, Lędziny was owned by Baltazar Promnice. The Promnitz estate was divided into so-called keys, and Lędziny belonged to the largest of these, known as the Bijasowice, later Lędziny. This was the beginning of the rapid development of a manor-serf economy based on agriculture, animal husbandry, pond farming, and forestry, which in turn led to the expansion and growth of the village's importance.

The pentagonal "market square," whose main attraction is the fountain, is bounded on the east by the existing historic former "parish" building (currently the seat of the Municipal Library), and on the west by the rebuilt and expanded parsonage "stables" with an added northern section, clock tower, and ground-level passage. In addition to the fountain, the square also features a pedestal with a cracked bell from St. Anne's Church, one of the oldest bells in the voivodeship.
