The first pumping plant was built in the mid-1800s by the Melzi d'Eril landowners, who took over from the Benedictine monks of Correzzola at the advent of Napoleon. Subsequently the plant was expanded in 1916, 1957, 1980 and 2005 to ensure the drainage of areas located more than 3 meters below sea level and subject to lowering of peat, which due to natural mineralization is lowered by 2-3 cm per year. A reclamation museum has been created inside the old plant, which is visited by school groups and enthusiasts. It is now managed by the Adige Euganeo Consortium.
