The reserve was established to protect and preserve an area of great geological value. In 2007 the decision and management plan of the reserve were revised. Today, outdoor life is also to be favored and new habitats created for species worthy of protection, combined with open sandy pine forests with sun-exposed patches of sand and sunlit coarse pine forests.
