The Church of San Lorenzo, known as the "Purgatorio" is located in the historic center of Agrigento. Sumptuous and splendid Baroque monument, erected in the second half of the 18th century, designed to accommodate solemn liturgical ceremonies and the crowds of faithful who listen to the preachers. The facade, with two orders crowned by a tympanum, elegantly punctuated vertically by a series of pillars, presents an alternation of functional and decorative elements with a remarkable scenographic effect. The interior, which is able to give an immediate and vibrant impression of splendor due to the stuccos, the golds, the paintings, immediately reveals that we are facing a church with a "preaching hall" destined to be an environment and a commentary for the images that they complete it. The internal perimeter 39 meters long and 9 meters wide is concluded and underlined by the decorative stuccos of Serpotta (1656-1732).
