Structurally, Simmershausen, in contrast to e.g. B. to Gleicherwiesen or Gleichamberg, a street village and has about 290 inhabitants. In the south of the village, the river Milz flows from east to west.

History The first written mention of the place goes back to the year 874 under the name "Sigimareshusun". From 1888 to 1946 there was a rail connection to Hildburghausen and to Lindenau via Heldburg. The structure of the center is still very well preserved and dates from the 9th and 10th centuries. In 1993 the center of Simmershausen was placed under monument protection by the Thuringian state administration. On March 23 of the same year, the town was incorporated into the community of Gleichamberg.
