The Wullesee is a pond in the Dürrmenz district of Mühlacker. It belongs to the Mühlacker fishing club.
The artificially created body of water used to be used by the Leo brothers brewery in Dürrmenz to obtain ice for cooling beer barrels in the Dürrmenz brewery cellars. In winter it was also used for ice skating. The lake used to be called Leo Lake. The Leo brothers brewery was taken over by the Wulle brewery in 1919.
Since the early 1960s, the Wullesee has been leased by the Mühlacker fishing club. In 2003, the Dinkelacker brewery, which took over the Wulle brewery in 1971, sold the lake to the Mühlacker fishing club.
The Wullesee is considered an important spawning area for amphibians. Every year in early spring there are mass spawning migrations towards the water, which then serves as a kind of "nursery" for toads, frogs, amphibians and more. It is almost irreplaceable for the fishing club with its traditional fishing festival.
There is a memorial stone right next to the Wullesee, which reminds us that in the 1850s King Wilhelm had unsuccessfully drilled for coal deposits at the site.
