A must to climb De Watchtower. At this location you are immediately aware of the ins and outs of the Scheldt.
Information panel and history explanation:
After the Second World War, the Belgian Navy took up residence at Fort Liefkenshoek. A watchtower was then erected on one of the shot bunkers from the First World War.
The belvedere offers a breathtaking view of the Scheldt, of impressively large ships, of the port activities along both the left and right banks and of the industrial settlements in the former polders of Sint-Anna-Ketenis and Doel.
The location, shape, layout and buildings of the Liefkenshoek site are also clearly distinguishable from the top of the watchtower.
