Impressive place of worship right on the Placa Constitution
Father Solano García began planning the construction in 1830, but the foundation stone was not laid until 1860.
The construction suffered serious damage during the defense of Paysandú in 1864-65. It is the oldest church of Paysandú and was in 1949 by Pope Pius XII. elevated to the rank of basilica.
