The castle, mentioned in 1130, was probably built by the Lords of Massenhausen, whose noble family rose to become the most distinguished Bavarian tournament nobility in the course of the 13th century. Arnold IV, known as “the Noseless” because of his disfigured facial features, took over the rule around 1300, which as Hofmark included Täsingen Castle (Dasing) and properties in numerous surrounding towns. He was a marshal in Upper and Lower Bavaria and a confidant of Emperor Ludwig of Bavaria.[1] Arnold IV was succeeded by his son Wilhelm, who died childless.

In 1408 Hans Frauenberger zu Haag is named as heir, from 1499 the Bishopric of Freising is the landlord. The castle was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War (1618-48). With the secularization of Bavaria in 1803, the manorial rule of the Bishopric of Freising ended. The Hofmark Massenhausen with lower jurisdiction was assigned to the Electorate of Bavaria and the district court of Kranzberg.

The remains of the castle were demolished in 1804. Ditches from the moth complex, which can still be seen, are still preserved.
