The “Westernkottener Warte” brine spring was developed in 1845. The depth of the borehole is 78 meters. It was discovered by chance at the time, because it was actually looking for rock salt. At that time, instead of encountering rock salt, this brine source was surprisingly drilled, which shot out of the borehole in a large fountain.
Until 1949, the very productive brine source was mainly used for salt extraction and also for healing purposes. With the termination of salt production in Westernkotten in 1949 and the foundation of Solbad Westernkotten GmbH in the following year 1950, the former salt village of Westernkotten finally changed. Since then, the brine has been used exclusively for bathroom use and for health-promoting and health-promoting purposes.
