An older castle house is already dated for the year 1393. In 1606 the castle house of the lord of Eltz is mentioned in a council record. In the early 18th century, the Burghaus was owned by the Pittersdorf family, who sold it to the saltworks inspector Abrosius Anton Singer in 1750/51. He had today's baroque residential building built over what is probably still a medieval cellar.
