From March to October, the National Park Watch Norderney carries out weekly ornithological tours of the Südstrandpolder, starting at the bird watching hut on the southern dike.

Here on Norderney is the greatest chance to observe Löffler, as his breeding colonies are not visible from public roads. At the northeastern end of the polder you can see the Great Curlew at flood time, which is one of our largest waders.

The National Park Watch carries binoculars and a spotting scope; own equipment can be brought along additionally.

Note: The highest populations of birds are observed at high tide.
