The lighthouse Knock is certainly one of the most unusual fire carriers on Germany's shores. The gray building was built in 1966 after several years of construction primarily as a control center for the radar chain of the Emsschifffahrt and is therefore dominated by a large radar on the top of the 55 -meter-high building. The actual monitoring center is located in the large sweeping floor in the lower third. On the roof of the headquarters is then also the actual beacon at a height of 29 m, which in turn a rotating radar antenna was placed.

Only a few years ago, the tower was extensively rebuilt. A new antenna for satellite navigation was installed, which significantly changed the appearance of the building.

The lighthouse is located on the headland of the same name, which represents a change of course for the entire Emsschifffahrt. Accordingly, there were already seafaring signs here. As early as 1859 a wooden frame was set up on this spot, on which a Rüböllampe and a Fresnel lens produced a beacon. This "lantern on the Knock" was, after the big Borkum lighthouse, the first beacon on the Ems. A rhombus beacon stands today at this point, which also marks a limit set in the Ems Dollart contract.
