Källa g:a kyrka, the old church of Källa, is an impressive beauty from about year 1100 used until mid 1800. Walk around, breath and don’t miss the informative signs. Sometimes the church are used for concerts, the chairs are hard but the ambience breath taking. In summer time there are regular services held. Check with svenskakyrkan.se

Rustic old church on the outskirts of Källa Hamn. A few benches invite you to take a break.

Traces of wood have been found under the floor of the church building visible today, indicating the existence of an earlier wooden church on the same site. This first church was probably built in the 11th century. In the 1170s a stone tower was built, possibly attached to the wooden church or detached, for defensive purposes. Subsequently, in the 13th century, the wooden church was replaced by the stone building visible today. The church still has essentially the same appearance as it did at the end of the century. Only minor adjustments have been made since then. It is a reference to what several fortified churches on Öland looked like in the Middle Ages.
