The Schafsberg is an artificially created hill that protrudes from the little-moving relief of the area. Before the Eider was dammed, it served as a retreat in the event of floods that exceeded the normal tidal range for the sheep kept for grazing on the "Green Island". The old dike line, up to 2 km away, was not easily accessible at any time. "Kiek ut", which is now on the former freshwater reservoir, is later a tourist facility.

A beautiful observation tower near the green islands on the Schafsberg with great views over the country to the Eider.
The Eider is the longest river in Schleswig-Holstein and was of central cultural and economic importance with its catchment area in the Eider-Treene-Sorge river system.

At Tönning, the Lower Eider merged with the Purrenstrom into a funnel-shaped estuary.

If you drive along here, you will get to know the now dyked areas of the Katinger foreland, the Green Islands, the NSG "Green Island with Eider Watt" and the Eider barrier, which has largely removed the Eider estuary from the natural dynamics of the Wadden Sea.
