Hardtberg Tower (32.3 m) – Königstein i.T. 🚴‍♂️

The Hardtberg near Königstein is a 408.7 m high mountain in the Taunus Mountains. The Hardtberg Tower and the Forstgarten are located on the summit, as well as the famous Opel Zoo in the immediate vicinity.

An iron observation tower was built on the summit of the mountain in 1899 by the Taunus Club, which was renovated and raised to 14.5 m in 1999 by the city of Königstein. It was the successor to the first wooden tower built on the same site in 1884, which had fallen into disrepair and was demolished. The tower had been closed since December 2012 due to severe corrosion damage. In 2021, the damaged tower was finally demolished, and construction of a new, third tower began.

In June 2022, the new Hardtberg Tower, more than twice as high at 32.3 meters, was inaugurated. The steel tower has an oval floor plan, 140 steps, and five platforms. From the observation deck, which is 26.6 meters high, there is a panoramic view of the town of Königstein with its castle, Falkenstein Castle, the Großer Feldberg, Kronberg Castle, and the Frankfurt skyline. 🚴‍♂️
