La Chatte Pendue culminates at 899 m, from where you can embrace a superb view of the Champ du feu massif, Climont and Donon. But the originality of the place lies above all in its unusual name which has been the subject of many interpretations. Formerly called "Pirre hhatte pendaïe", High hanging stone. The guttural pronunciation of the "H" or transcription errors would have transformed the hhatte into a cat. Thus in 1847, a beautiful handwritten map of Waters and Forests mentions the Stone of the Hanged Cat.
