In 2007 we founded our association and quickly we grew. We currently have around 100 members, not just from Barrigsen. From young to old we find people of all ages together. Our association is recognized as charitable because of the promotion of home care.

We have two self-built, mobile wood-burning ovens, a historic field kitchen vehicle (Mercedes Benz 911, formerly emergency vehicle at the Federal Border Police) and our bakery with a large, also fired with wood, clay oven. For this bakery, we rebuilt a 160-year-old bakery from the Weserbergland at the village entrance in-house with old handcraft techniques. Here we meet for baking or we invite guests to enjoy together delicacies from the wood oven.

Our small village with about 240 inhabitants is located in the heart of the Calenberger country. In ancient documents Barrigsen is first mentioned in the 11th century as Barchusen. In the 16th century, there were five full and three half-breweries in Barrigsen, as well as a Kötnerstelle, and even today the village is dominated by agriculture and is designated as a conservation area. You will find many old farms with original half-timbered houses and of course our back house: It fits seamlessly into the overall picture of our village.

Since the construction of our bakery is a contribution to the promotion of community and the enrichment of village life, it was included in the village renewal plan by the city of Barsinghausen. Thus, we got the necessary financial support, which of course helped us a lot with the implementation of our project. In addition to the financial resources, of course, an immense share of own efforts were needed to realize our dream of own Backhaus. Two and a half years alone took the planning and preparation time. Then it could finally start building and many helping hands were required!

The result of all these efforts has paid off and is something to be proud of! Our village now has a starting point. In the spirit of a lived welcome culture, we succeed again and again, both residents Barrigsens and neighboring communities, as well as people from the region to bring together here. We are very happy about that and we are proud of it!
