Girokastra is a city that was declared a World Heritage Site for preserving beautiful traditional Balkan architecture with great Ottoman influence. Settled on the side of a hill, Girokastra has several kules, large Turkish-style mansions, as well as a beautiful network of narrow streets in the old town and a citadel at the top of the city.
Gjirokastër is a beautiful town and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also the birthplace of the former dictator Enver Hoxha. The Greeks called the town Argyrokastro "Silberberg" because the slate roofs appear silver after a downpour in the sunlight.
