This part of the Kleine Dommel runs from the Castell Heeze in the south to the A 67 motorway in the north. It is about 3.5 kilometers long. To the east is the Strabrechtse Heide. The wooded and very wet Goorse Zeggen nature reserve is also located on the eastern shore. Both belong to the Strabrechtse Heide & Beuven Natura 2000 protection area. Until about 1900 this heathland stretched north to Nuenen and south to what is now De Groote Peel reserve.
This relatively well-preserved part of the Dommel still shows a hydrological process that has largely disappeared with the destruction of the heath in the Netherlands. The hydrological process is that precipitation seeps into the heath and comes to the surface again in the valley (Kleine Dommel). This makes the valley extremely wet and attracts certain species. This explains the attempts to restore this process and the environment in this part of the Little Dommel Valley.
Crossing the bridge is a good way to connect with tours from the "Groote Heide" to the "Stabrechtse Heide" and vice versa.
