The Minturno War Cemetery contains 2,049 burials from the Second World War. The site for the cemetery was chosen in January 1944. The burials mainly concern the heavy losses suffered during the crossing of the Garigliano.
The Allied troops had advanced from the south to push back the German Wehrmacht. The advance came to a halt at the Garigliano River, and a costly battle raged in January 1944. Over 2,000 fallen soldiers were buried here. It is a very impressive complex!
