            The sculpture trail was developed in 2010 by representatives of the Enz district and the town of Maulbronn. The selection of the nationally known artists was made by a committee headed by the art critic Günther Wirth, the district administrator of the Enz district Karl Röckinger, the former district administrator Heinz Reichert, the mayor of the town of Maulbronn Andreas Felchle, the art historian Regina M. Fischer and other art and culture experts. They describe the Maulbronn sculpture trail as an "approach" to the world cultural heritage site of Maulbronn Monastery, as the monastery has been a UNESCO world cultural heritage site since 1993.
