The Richelsdorfer Hütte is located in the Richelsdorf district of the Wildeck municipality. It looks back on a long and eventful history. It owes its existence to the various mineral resources in the Richelsdorf Mountains, where first copper, then nickel, cobalt and barite were mined underground and smelted, or processed and processed. The oldest documented mention dates back to 1460, in which there is evidence of a copper smelting works.
In the 17th century there were already two smelting works and three stamping mills for processing the ore. The first smelting works was the Bernshütte, which was named after the former Bernsdorf, and later became the Richelsdorfer Hütte.

This is the former location of the Richelsdorfer Hütte, which was originally called Bernsdorfer Hütte after the deserted town of Bernsdorf. As early as 1460, copper smelting furnaces were in operation in the Richelsdorf Mountains. Around 1700, the then Landgrave of Hesse had the facility expanded to include two blast furnaces, a coking plant, a copper hammer and two stamping mills with cobalt washing. Copper, nickel, cobalt and later from around 1880 barite were mined and smelted as mineral resources. Alsecco GmbH (building materials, facade design) has been based here since 1957. A toxic waste product from historical mining was arsenic, which was flushed down the Weihe stream to Richelsdorf. Expensive floor renovations are pending.
