Manheim was first mentioned in documents in 898. This is a deed of donation with which King Zwentibold transfers ownership to the Essen Monastery, among others in the town of Manheim (then Mannunhem).
In 1027 the basic rule passed to the Archdiocese of Cologne.
From 1954, the municipalities of Buir and Manheim formed a common district.
Manheim was an independent municipality until 1974, before the place was then assigned to the new city of Kerpen by the Cologne Law with effect from January 1, 1975.
Manheim has been gradually relocated since 2012. In 2007, the application to draw up the Hambach brown coal plan, subject-related section of resettlement in Manheim, was drawn up and submitted to the mining authority. The approval was granted on June 8, 2011 by the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia. From 2022 onwards, the area will be used for mining purposes.

After the resettlement is almost complete, Manheim (old) more and more resembles a ghost town. Most houses are empty and some are already demolished. In some places you do not even see that here once houses have stood.
What a feeling for the former residents, some of whom have lived here since birth and come from families who have lived here for generations, can not be imagined.

Very interesting, a visit is worthwhile - but you get a queasy feeling when you consider what is supposed to fall victim to coal here and how many people and nature are affected. 🙁
