The installation "Le Monument du Chêne" (1995) by the artist Gloria Friedmann in the Forêt de Haguenau consists of the calcined trunk of a tree, in stark contrast to a red wall erected behind it. The Monument du Chêne thus takes on something theatrical: in the middle of the green forest, the protagonist is ready for the prologue, the red curtain behind him. With this work, Gloria Friedmann takes up a position that she had already shown in her tree object "Denkmal" (Monument), created five years earlier on the Moltkeplatz in Essen, as well as her installation "Stigma" (1991) in the Wanås Sculpture Park (Knislinge/Sweden).
